About this role
Role Overview
Provide timely, practical and sound legal advice and counseling on a wide range of employment law issues and day-to-day support for the HR teams, including recruiting, hiring, employee relations, leaves of absence and accommodations, wage and hour, internal investigations, compensation and benefits, and general labor and employment compliance.
Support ranges from explaining human resource fundamentals to HR employees to providing detailed analysis of legal risk of proposed actions or inactions.
Collaborate with senior Labor & Employment lawyers to develop criteria for Company-wide employment best practices and to ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.
Provide support to senior Labor & Employment lawyers on guidance related to high-level Company transactions, strategic and commercial HR initiatives, reductions-in-force, and contingent workforce issues.
Prepare preliminary drafts of contracts, policies and procedures, and employment-related onboarding and offboarding agreements such as offer letters and separation agreements.
Work with senior Labor & Employment lawyers to develop and deploy training on a regular basis to Human Resources employees and management level employees on a range of labor and employment issues.
Collaborate with senior Labor & Employment lawyers and local counsel, where necessary, to advise the HR teams and management on employment issues.
Provide support and counsel on investigations, assist in development of strategy, and respond to claims, demand letters, administrative complaints, audits, and other employment-related inquiries.
Assist in administrative audits and support other compliance efforts.
Strategically and in a cost-effective manner, assist in the management of and partnership with local counsel in employment litigation matters, including litigation strategy, budgets and invoices, compliance with outside counsel guidelines and work product.
Review and provide support to HR on updating employment policies and procedures across the enterprise and keep them current/compliant (e.g., employment policies and procedures, Severance Agreements, disciplinary and investigation procedures, associate handbooks, etc.).
Assist in implementing employment-related training and compliance tools for the company's use.
Assist with monitoring and reporting recent compliance and litigation developments and trends; advise senior Labor & Employment lawyers regarding compliance and updates to employment laws and regulations.
Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
Bar admission and license to practice law in the U.S., member in good standing
At least 4 years experience, specifically in labor and employment law area of practice
Prior experience working in a large law firm preferred
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
Ability to draft documents and policies in a concise manner for non-lawyers
Must have advanced breadth and depth of practical and academic knowledge of federal, state, and municipal labor and employment laws/regulations, with proven working knowledge of issues related to the EEOC, FLSA, FMLA, NLRB, ADEA, ADA, Title VII, WARN, discrimination and equal pay claims.
Substantial experience with delivering advice and counsel to business clients such as Human Resources
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Self-motivated and able to quickly troubleshoot issues and provide solutions
Ability to effectively collaborate in a team environment, take ownership of projects, and demonstrate independence needed to effectively and timely complete projects
Extremely organized, strong ability to focus on details, demonstrate accuracy, maintain a high level of confidentiality, and excellent time management skills
