Assessing the viability and constructability of target land for interconnection and provide feedback to different internal and external stakeholders
Create layouts for projects (different stages) and evaluate project work needs based on choice of equipment and installation methods
Design interconnection plans and SLDs for utility interconnection applications and negotiations
Engineer and design the electrical facilities for solar photovoltaic and battery storage projects: DC array/block layouts, AC layouts, electrical plans, detailed wiring drawings, conductor and conduit schedules, grounding and power studies
Specify equipment (transformers, low and medium voltage switchgear, etc.) for procurement
Generate design documents for permits and construction
Review and update QA/QC procedures for project commissioning and start-up
Review and approve energy generation estimates and underlying assumptions
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with at least 8 years of relevant experience (advanced degree preferred)
Electrical Professional Engineer (PE) license required
Experience with electrical generation projects at a traditional engineering or architectural firm or EPC contractor
Electrical engineering and design experience on grid-scale, commercial, or utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (or similar) software and electrical discipline libraries
Advanced proficiency in ETAP or SKM (or similar) power study software
Working knowledge of conceptual design software such as SIFT/Helioscope and energy modeling software such as PVSYST
Working knowledge of GIS software and data layers
Working knowledge of solar PV module stringing and OEM-approved racking layouts
Hands-on design experience with software necessary for the job functions
Strong communication, drafting, and presentation skills
Curiosity in experimenting with new design approaches and a “can-do” attitude toward problem-solving
25-30% travel expected for site visits as needed
