About this role
Role Overview
Involved with the analysis, design, development and implementation of new and/or existing systems/sub-systems
May include Architectural Design, Requirements Engineering, or others
Determine system specifications
Support acquisition of hardware and software (or subcontractor services as needed)
Responsible for leading group of engineers on a technical activity and completion of activity on time and budget
Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems
May use computer-aided engineering or other design/analysis software in the performance of assignments
Review customer specifications and requirements, and under direction, develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable
Provide budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments
Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services
Drive the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements
Develop prototypes to retire key development risks
Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required
Participate in preparation of proposals
Provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel
Lead and direct the work of others as assigned
Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings
Lead less-experienced engineers
Demonstrates familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methods and tools (e.g., Cameo, DOORS), or a willingness to learn and apply these practices
Leads hands-on development and integration of embedded computing systems for airborne and shipboard products, including subsystem bring-up, interface integration, troubleshooting, and verification in a lab and production-representative environment.
Demonstrates practical experience with embedded hardware and software integration (e.g., CPU/SoC-based compute, real-time interfaces, board-level I/O, networking, serial buses) and system-level debug using lab instrumentation and engineering test tools
Serves as technical lead for small to mid-scale work packages: decomposing scope, coordinating a matrix team (Systems, Hardware, Software, Mechanical, Test), establishing integration strategy, and driving execution to cost and schedule
Produces and reviews engineering work products expected in delivered defense products, such as: System and Subsystem Architectures, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Requirements Allocations, Verification Plans and Procedures, Integration Plans, and Technical Risk Assessments.
Supports pursuit capture and proposals by developing technical approaches, solution architectures, compliance matrices, make-buy inputs, technical volumes, and risk-reduction plans (including prototype or demo concepts when needed).
Collaborates with production and test organizations to enable design for manufacture and test, including support for factory bring-up, acceptance test strategy, and resolution of integration and yield issues.
Develops skills in applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) or advanced automation techniques to support engineering analysis and decision-making.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field
a minimum of 5 years of experience or a combination of both
Fluency in technologies and application domain
Ability to lead a technical group independently
