Prepare, analyze, and communicate monthly financial reports to managers, executive officers, provincial stakeholders and the Board of Directors
Identify the use of new technology to be used to support the completion of financial activities
Lead and support EFC’s transition to new accounting software over the next 1–2 years, including potential process redesign
Monitor the financial activities, transactions and accounting processes performed by the Finance Unit staff and the Industrial Product Program Unit
As required, adapt and/or develop new processes to reflect changes in operations
Schedule, plan and prepare for interim and year-end audits with external auditors and internal staff
Work with the Chief Financial Officer, Controller and Financial Policy Manager to communicate the results of the audit to the Audit Committee and the Board of Directors
Consider and form Ad Hoc financial reports
Approve implementation and verify adherence to accounting policies and procedures
Ensure timely and accurate completion of all account reconciliations and key controls
Strengthen internal controls and risk management practices to support sound financial management
Manage, direct and support Finance Unit staff
Recruit, train and mentor staff for completion of financial activities at EFC
Administer and lead the performance management program, including supervising and evaluating Finance staff
Foster a collaborative team culture and promote continuous learning, and succession planning within the Finance Unit
Requirements
Undergraduate Degree in business, accounting, finance or a related discipline
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
Minimum 7 to 8 years of progressive experience in accounting
Minimum of 5 years supervisory or people leadership experience
Experience supporting audits and presenting financial information to senior leadership is an asset
Experience with accounting system implementation or system upgrades is an asset
In-depth knowledge of current accounting and financial reporting requirements
Knowledge of financial software systems and enterprise accounting platforms
Knowledge of evolving industry and best business practice trends
Strong understanding of internal controls and audit processes
Financial reporting experience desired
Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify trends, root causes, and business drivers
Ability to develop accounting policies and procedures to support the day-to-day fiscal operations
Ability to apply logical, evaluative and methodical thinking to identify problems and determine optimal course of action to pursue
Ability to propose and recommend strategic solutions and advise staff on complex financial matters related to EFC’s funds
Strong written communication skills, including proofreading, editing, and formatting financial documents
Strong presentation skills, with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial audiences
Ability to use various software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office).
