Lead the payroll workstream for our current acquisition, harmonizing two distinct payroll systems, policies, and schedules into a single engine by October 1, 2026.
Leverage AI and automation tools to innovate payroll administration, identifying opportunities to eliminate manual tasks and increase the speed and scalability of our operations.
Design and implement a roadmap for global payroll practices to ensure compliance and consistency as we expand into new international markets.
Audit existing workflows to identify friction points and reinvent processes to ensure 100% accuracy and timeliness.
Oversee the successful execution of multiple payroll runs, including bi-weekly and semi-monthly cycles, for all employees across all entities.
Act as the primary liaison between the People and Finance departments to ensure data integrity and budget alignment.
Ensure all payroll activities adhere to local, state, federal, and international regulations while leading year-end reporting and audits.
Manage and mentor one to two direct reports by setting clear KPIs and providing consistent feedback to support their development.
Provide data-driven insights and payroll perspectives to the leadership team to influence company-wide decisions.
Collaborate on the implementation and optimization of payroll and HRIS software to improve system interoperability and reporting.
Act as the lead investigator and resolver for historical payroll tax account discrepancies; proactively manage and resolve outstanding notices from state and local agencies (e.g., Ohio, etc.) to ensure all accounts are in good standing and future penalties are eliminated.
Stay current on changing labor laws and tax regulations to proactively adjust internal policies and procedures.
Requirements
6+ years of experience in payroll management.
2+ years of experience in a leadership or strategic role.
Proven experience managing direct reports and driving performance through coaching.
Deep expertise in payroll tax, compliance, and multi-state and international regulations.
Experience with payroll software migrations and integrations.
Previous experience navigating the nuances of transitioning employee data and benefits during an acquisition or merger.
Familiarity with international labor laws and the complexities of paying a global workforce.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex payroll and tax concepts to diverse stakeholders.
A systems-thinking mindset with a focus on building scalable, error-proof processes.
Ability to balance the priorities of both HR (employee experience) and Finance (reporting and accruals).
Experience with ADP, Paylocity, and/or Workday is preferred.
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is preferred.
