Software Architect – Sportsbook

Role Overview

• Design and evolve the platform architecture for a sportsbook using your experience building these systems from the ground up.
• Architect scalable backend systems, low-latency APIs, and real-time data pipelines
• where lag is not an option.
• Design highly available, distributed systems with strong consistency to guarantee flawless financial processing during massive sporting events.
• Lead the architectural decision-making, run POCs, and evaluate technologies as the final authority for the tech stack.
• Define the security architecture (authentication, fraud prevention, API protection) while ensuring robust operational readiness and disaster recovery.
• Build out engineering teams (internal and external), establish strict technical standards (ADRs), and align architecture across frontend, backend, and DevOps.
• Work directly alongside the Co-Founders to translate the business vision into a scalable engineering reality.

Requirements

• A proven track record of building a Sportsbook platform. This is a non-negotiable requirement.
• 3+ years as a Software Architect or Principal Engineer and 8+ years building high-volume, high-availability distributed systems.
• Deep backend engineering expertise in Node.js, Java, Go, or Python with an understanding of real-time communication and stateful connections.
• Mastery of AWS or GCP, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
• Expert-level understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL), Redis, and event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Experience designing large-scale cloud architectures in production environments.
• Hands-on, pragmatic approach with the ability to lead through technical authority in a fast-moving environment.
• The ability to explain complex architectural trade-offs to both engineering and leadership.
