About this role
Role Overview
Responsible for chairing the Internal Governance standing committee and any directly related ad-hoc committees of the SRA
Make recommendations and advise the Vice-President Administration in matters relating to their portfolios
Attend relevant meetings as advised by the Vice-President Administration
Create, review, amend, and rescind Operating Policies and Bylaws
Submit memos explaining proposed policy changes
Prepare a detailed year plan for committee efforts
Research potential solutions to current problems in governance and policies
Consult with staff, volunteers, and/or community members on matters of policy
Report to the SRA and Vice-President with regards to progress and projects
Organize and manage committee meetings and resources
Provide training and outline responsibilities of committee members
Propose creative solutions to internal practices
Requirements
Knowledgeable in scope and focus of the Standing Committee
Knowledgeable of parliamentary procedure, MSU Constitution, Operations, Bylaws, and Policies
Understanding of the MSU legislative process and the complexities of policy creation
Strong research and critical thinking skills
Ability to make reasoned and impartial decisions
Ability to effectively chair meetings
Strategic planning abilities
Ability to work both independently and in a team
Ability to carry out research projects from start to finish
