Elementary School Counselor

Role Overview

• Promote student success by providing preventive services and responding to identified needs
• Implement a comprehensive school counseling program
• Help students plan for postsecondary options
• Apply academic achievement strategies
• Manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills
• Focus on college and career readiness
• Meet quarterly with all students on caseload
• Deliver classroom instruction based on student success standards
• Review transcripts and academic documentation
• Collaborate with teaching staff to develop a graduation plan
• Assist students in course placement
• Analyze student data and develop intervention action plans
• Provide short-term counseling and referrals as necessary
• Support teachers, staff, and parents
• Advocate for students in education plan meetings
• Focus on goal setting and academic planning for college readiness
• Travel up to 20% for professional development and student testing

Requirements

• Alabama School Counselor Certification
• Bachelor's degree
• Three (3) years of experience in counseling and/or advisement
• School Counselor License
• Ability to clear required background check
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Web-based search engines, and database systems
• Flexible schedule; Ability to travel as needed
• Master’s degree in school counseling
• Experience with distance learning
• Advanced coursework in counseling and administration
