Prepare general arrangements, layouts and detail drawings, and P&IDs for process, utility, HVAC, and manufacturing systems including HVAC ducting, piping and plumbing.
Prepare HVAC and building mechanical system designs from concept to commissioning, ensuring technical integrity and cost-effectiveness.
Oversee the mechanical designers and take responsibility for mechanical designs.
Co-ordinate design efforts remotely.
Assist in the development of capital cost estimates and effort-hour estimates.
Prepare design bases, work tenders, best value options analyses, and provide input to project schedules.
Review supplier and contractor submissions and ensure compliance with project and code requirements.
Provide engineering support during construction to ensure technical compliance. This includes reviewing equipment submittals and shop drawings and responding to contractor RFI's (request for information).
Work closely with engineers and other designers for coordination.
Provide client-focused communication, both written and verbal to foster strong working relationships.
Maintain positive relationships with internal and external clients, customers and co-workers.
Provide leadership to assigned project teams and mentor or guide junior engineers as required.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
4-8 years of relevant engineering experience in manufacturing, process and utility environments.
Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software such as Plant 3D, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Revit.
Experience preparing piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), general arrangements, layouts, and elevation drawings for manufacturing, process and utility systems.
Strong understanding of mechanical design principles for HVAC, ducting, and piping systems, including pressure drop, flow rate, and equipment sizing calculations.
Experience in equipment specification, vendor coordination, and submittal review for fans, pumps, compressors, and heat exchangers.
Knowledge of codes and standards, including CSA, ASME B31.1/B31.3, SMACNA, ASHRAE standards and NFPA.
Understanding Building Codes and NFPA fire safety requirements applicable to industrial systems is an asset.
Experience supporting construction and commissioning activities, including review of shop drawings, and RFIs.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory to coordinate effectively with the team in North America.
