About this role
Role Overview
The Special Accounts Officer is accountable for the control of delinquent and non-performing accounts.
Provides professional and individualized financial counseling to members regarding debt consolidation.
Initiates legal proceedings on enforcement actions when necessary.
Provides guidance to branch staff on collections related matters to minimize risk.
Engages with members to discuss their financial situation and determine the best course of action.
Assesses when legal action is required and initiates legal processes including foreclosures once approved.
Facilitates asset repossessions by locating and confirming ownership of the asset prior to seizure.
Works with branch staff to find solutions and/or restructure deals on problem accounts.
Requirements
4–6 years of progressive experience in financial services or credit-related environment.
Strong knowledge of collections practices, skip‑tracing procedures, Small Claims processes, and BC Collection Laws.
Foundational understanding of the Personal Property Security Act (PPSA), Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act (BPCPA).
Foundational knowledge of bankruptcy and consumer proposal processes and related claims.
Working knowledge of financial analysis techniques used to assess client financial conditions.
Solid understanding of default management tools, including CMHC and Sagen mortgage insurance policies.
Strong understanding of retail and small business lending processes, policies, and core financial products.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
