Design HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and heating/cooling systems for commercial and institutional buildings across a variety of project types
Lead and coordinate mechanical design from schematic phase through construction documents, taking ownership of your discipline on project teams
Collaborate with architects, interior designers, structural engineers, and electrical engineers to deliver integrated, sustainable building solutions
Develop and maintain high quality Revit models and engineering drawings for HVAC, plumbing and drainage, and fire protection systems
Perform load calculations, equipment selections, and system sizing using first principles engineering and industry standard software
Integrate energy modelling, value engineering, and lifecycle costing to optimize mechanical system performance and project budgets
Manage day to day project activities, including client meetings, presentations, and consultant coordination
Support construction administration activities including site reviews, shop drawing review, and responding to RFIs and contractor queries
Mentor EITs and junior designers, contributing to team development and a culture of technical excellence
Contribute innovative mechanical solutions for green and high performance building projects
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Technology Diploma in a related discipline
P.Eng. or P.L.(Eng.) licensure (or eligibility) required
6-12 years of experience designing HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection systems for commercial and institutional buildings, or equivalent combination of education and demonstrated project experience
Proficient with BIM software (Revit preferred) and load calculation tools (Carrier HAP, Trane TRACE, or similar)
Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards including ASHRAE 62.1, ASHRAE 90.1, National Building Code of Canada, Alberta Building Code, NFPA 13/14, and CSA B149
Experience with schematic design, design development, detailed engineering calculations, equipment selection, and specification writing
Familiarity with construction administration processes including site reviews, shop drawing review, and RFI responses
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly to clients and project teams
Energetic, proactive, and collaborative with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
LEED accreditation is an asset
