About this role
Role Overview
Define, own, and continuously mature Range's end-to-end reliability program, establishing standards, processes, and culture across engineering, manufacturing, and operations
Build and maintain a reliability roadmap aligned with product development milestones and fleet growth targets
Develop and deploy predictive reliability models leveraging field telemetry, sensor data, and historical failure data to anticipate failures before they occur
Build reliability growth models (Duane, AMSAA/Crow) to track and project reliability improvement over the product lifecycle
Apply statistical methods Weibull analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, regression modeling to quantify failure risk and remaining useful life (RUL) of critical components
Establish and monitor fleet-level KPIs including MTBF, MTTR, availability, failure rate, and warranty cost trends
Define and lead DFMEAs to proactively identify and mitigate failure modes across systems to minimize costs and enhance customer satisfaction
Define and enforce reliability requirements at the system, subsystem, and component level for Class 8 powertrain, chassis, and vehicle integration applications
Conduct reliability allocation and reliability block diagram (RBD) modeling to ensure top-level uptime targets are achievable by design
Champion reliability-centered design decisions including redundancy strategies, derating, and materials selection appropriate for heavy-duty trucking environments
Author and maintain master Test Plans covering scope, objectives, resources, schedules, entry/exit criteria, and risk, ensuring alignment across engineering, program management, and leadership stakeholders
Develop and execute comprehensive testing protocols including environmental (temperature, humidity, thermal shock, vibration, dust/water ingress), durability, fatigue, load, and accelerated life testing (ALT) tailored to Class 8 operating conditions
Build Usage Profiles and Mission Profiles that accurately represent real-world Class 8 duty cycles long-haul, regional, and vocational and translate them into lab-equivalent test specifications
Define and manage the Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R) for all major systems and subsystems, ensuring full traceability from requirements through test evidence
Develop Production Validation Testing (PVT) plans to confirm that manufacturing processes do not degrade reliability relative to design intent
Lead investigations into product failures, perform root cause analyses using 8D, Fishbone, 5-Why, and FTA methodologies, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
Maintain a living failure database and lessons-learned repository to capture institutional knowledge and inform future designs
Create detailed reports, including DVP&Rs, test reports, failure analysis summaries, and reliability scorecards, to document testing procedures, results, and corrective actions
Participate in design reviews and contribute to the development of supplemental design documentation such as assembly instructions, test reports, and cost analyses
Support continuous improvement initiatives by leveraging field and test data to drive design iteration and product upgrades
Requirements
7+ years of experience in reliability engineering or a related role in automotive/heavy trucking
Proficiency in reliability testing methodologies and data analysis techniques including DVP&R, ALT, DFMEAs, and HALT/HASS
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct thorough root cause methodologies (8D, 5-Why, FTA, Fishbone, etc.)
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines and business functions
Ability to work on-site in a dynamic environment, with hands-on involvement on the build floor
Comfortable working across hardware, software, and operations teams in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
