Support day-to-day legal needs of operational departments, including contract drafting, negotiation, and legal interpretation.
Advise on operational matters such as leases, surface use agreements, right-of-way agreements, heavy hauling agreements, and local permitting processes.
Partner with cross-functional teams to facilitate business objectives while managing legal and regulatory risk.
Provide clear, practical legal guidance on operational matters.
Translate legal requirements into actionable business recommendations.
Draft, review, and negotiate agreements including leases, surface use and right-of-way agreements, heavy hauling and municipal agreements.
Ensure alignment with company standards and risk tolerance.
Identify and evaluate legal risks associated with operational decisions.
Support resolution of disputes, including pre-litigation matters.
Work closely with multiple departments, including Land, Surface Permitting & Civil, and Midstream teams.
Communicate legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
Maintain knowledge of oil & gas laws, particularly in the Appalachian Basin.
Monitor regulatory and industry developments.
Requirements
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active bar license.
3+ years relevant experience.
Experience supporting upstream and/or midstream oil & gas operations, including knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations affecting upstream and/or midstream oil and gas operations in the Appalachian Basin.
Strong communication, drafting, and negotiation skills.
Ability to travel 5-10% of the time for team events.
