Leading budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes, including rolling forecasts and annual budgets
Producing robust departmental budgets and ensuring accuracy across submissions
Developing financial models to support operational decision-making and performance tracking
Providing insightful monthly reporting and partnering with budget holders to challenge and improve forecasts
Reviewing financial transactions across operational areas, including capital and operational expenditure, ensuring accurate treatment and phasing
Supporting government funding bids, reporting and analysis, ensuring compliance with specific requirements and frameworks
Partnering with Technology teams to provide insight on spend, including intangible assets and cost modelling for technology usage
Supporting business cases and investment decisions across operational initiatives
Contributing to Executive and Board reporting, including risks and opportunities
Building strong relationships with senior stakeholders to embed financial thinking into decision-making
Requirements
Proven experience in financial planning, forecasting and business partnering
Strategic mindset with the ability to plan forward, using judgement as appropriate, to create clear forecasts where there is uncertainty around future plans
A recognised accounting qualification with relevant post-qualified experience
Strong skills in Excel and financial modelling with the ability to produce clear and insightful reporting and to communicate financial performance with operational leaders
Highly structured, with good attention to detail and able to produce accurate reporting
Strong communication skills and ability to develop trusted and valued relationships with the appropriate balance of support and challenge
Pro-active and self-motivated, with the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
Confidence and experience in working within a changing environment where business activities and processes are continually evolving
Experience working with government funding, grants or public sector reporting (highly desirable)
Experience in a start-up environment or an organisation where there is a high-level of uncertainty in future operations
Experience or interest in scientific research and/or healthcare organisations with the ability to understand the key issues facing the leadership team
Experience of producing budgets, managing expenditure and generating reports related to government funding
Experience of working with Technology/IT teams, including development of intangible assets and producing models for technology costs with fluctuating usage
