Support the team with import and export documentation according to customs regulations, laws, or procedures.
Interfaces directly and often with internal stakeholders, external customers, and carriers.
Utilizing the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and Code of Federal Regulations, ensure all products comply with CBP regulations.
Request or compile necessary import documentation, such as customs invoices, certificates of origin, and cargo-control documents; function as liaison with governmental agencies.
Stay abreast of changes in import or export laws or regulations by reading current literature, attending meetings or conferences, or conferring with colleagues; train internal SMA employees as needed.
Support/training and provide direction to Transportation Coordinators as needed.
Validates customs broker invoices and approvals for payment, resolving invoicing disputes when necessary.
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience.
More than 5 years of relevant work experience on either the carrier or shipper side.
Working knowledge of all carrier modes (air, parcel, ocean, FTL, LTL, flatbed).
Proven carrier management experience required.
Working experience maintaining and using a TMS preferred.
