Shaping and advancing Target’s enterprise sustainability strategy, ensuring alignment with business priorities, financial considerations, and critical external stakeholder expectations
Translating external sustainability, policy, and market trends into forward-looking strategic insight, surfacing risks, opportunities, and implications for enterprise decision-making and long-term value creation
Framing ambiguous or emerging sustainability issues, define problem statements, assess options and tradeoffs, and drive alignment toward decisions that balance ambition, financial realities, and execution pathways
Leading high-priority, cross-cutting strategic initiatives that span multiple sustainability priorities and business functions, including circularity, resilience, sustainable innovation, and others as required
Partnering with Corporate Strategy, Finance, and business teams to embed sustainability into enterprise strategy, planning, and investment decisions, driving clarity, focus, and enterprise alignment across initiatives
Translating sustainability priorities into clear business cases and strategic narratives that enable informed tradeoffs and investment decisions
Preparing executive and Board-ready materials that clearly articulate sustainability strategy, implications, and recommended paths forward
Elevating the strategic capability of the Enterprise Sustainability team by strengthening problem definition, enterprise framing, and executive readiness across workstreams
Leading through influence across a complex, matrixed organization, aligning stakeholders and advancing initiatives without direct authority
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree (4 years) or equivalent professional experience; MBA preferred
10+ years of professional experience in sustainability, enterprise strategy, management consulting, or related strategic roles
Background in consulting, enterprise strategy, transformation, or internal advisory roles preferred
Deep, hands-on expertise across environmental and social sustainability topics, including climate, responsible sourcing, ESG, and stakeholder expectations
Experience leading or advising on circularity, sustainable product and materials strategies, or business model innovation in a commercial context is strongly preferred
Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional strategic initiatives in a large, matrixed organization
Strong ability to synthesize complexity and ambiguity into clear, executive-level insights, options, and recommendations
Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including experience preparing executive
and Board-ready materials
Strong organizational awareness and proven ability to influence without formal authority across senior stakeholders
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-evolving environments
High degree of judgment, discretion, and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
Experience in retail, consumer goods, or similarly complex operating environments preferred
