About this role
Role Overview
Install, administer, and maintain Linux operating systems, including Debian and RHEL distributions.
Design, deploy, and maintain virtualisation environments (libvirt) and containerisation tools (LXC, Docker).
Manage Kubernetes (K8s) clusters — deployments, services, scaling, and troubleshooting in production environments.
Strong knowledge of networking protocols and services: IP, routing (static, OSPF, BGP), DNS, VPN, HA technologies (bridging, keepalive), firewalls, and Cisco Meraki.
Design and maintain secure, high-availability network infrastructure across distributed environments.
AWS: EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS, EKS, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Lambda. Experience with cost optimisation (Cost Explorer, Savings Plans) and security groups/policies.
GCP: Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, VPC, IAM, and Cloud Monitoring. Familiarity with Terraform or similar IaC tools for cloud resource management.
Experience managing multi-tenant cloud environments and migration projects (on-prem → cloud).
Understanding of cloud security principles: encryption, secrets management (HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secrets Manager), Zero Trust networking.
Configure and manage web servers: Nginx, Apache, PHP.
Database administration with MySQL/MariaDB, including replication technologies (bin-log, Galera).
Experience with Redis, Memcache, Supervisord, and Logstash.
Infrastructure monitoring using Nagios, Zabbix, Grafana, Prometheus, and Netdata.
Apply cybersecurity principles including vulnerability management, SIEM, and XDR.
Certificate lifecycle management (PKI, Let's Encrypt) and vulnerability scanning.
Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet.
Scripting in Bash, Python, or similar languages to automate repetitive operational tasks.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or equivalent) is a plus.
Create and maintain technical documentation, knowledge base articles, and runbooks — Atlassian Stack (Confluence, Jira).
Requirements
Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years of experience in Linux systems administration and IT infrastructure management.
Proven hands-on experience with AWS and/or GCP in a production environment.
Strong understanding of the technologies listed above.
Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues independently.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with external stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Relevant certifications are a strong plus: RHCE, CCNA, AWS Solutions Architect, GCP Associate Cloud Engineer, or equivalent.
Fluent written and spoken English.
