Independently prepare and review federal and state income tax compliance for subsidiary corporations, including quarterly and year-end federal income tax provisions.
Lead research and analysis of complex federal and state tax issues, evaluating diverse factors and devising solutions based on limited information and precedent.
Develop, analyze, and document sophisticated tax planning strategies and compliance solutions, adapting existing approaches to resolve issues in creative ways.
Manage and resolve issues raised during Internal Revenue Service examinations and various state examinations with wide latitude for independent judgment.
Serve as subject matter expert and advisor to financial reporting personnel and other departments on complex tax matters.
Mentor and provide guidance to junior tax staff on difficult technical matters.
Build and enhance relationships with senior internal and external partners, adapting communication style to differing audiences.
Lead special projects and initiatives requiring sophisticated analytical and problem-solving techniques.
Maintain current knowledge of tax law changes and industry best practices through continuing professional education.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Tax.
Master's degree in Accounting/Tax strongly preferred.
Minimum 5 years of progressive federal and state tax compliance/consulting experience in public accounting or tax department of a publicly traded company with a Bachelor’s degree; OR Minimum 3 years of experience with Master’s degree.
CPA designation required (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
Demonstrated experience working independently on complex tax matters with minimal supervision.
Proven track record of leading tax projects and advising senior stakeholders.
Complete knowledge and full understanding of US GAAP (ASC 740), US corporate tax compliance, and consolidated returns.
US insurance company income tax experience desirable.
Expert-level analytical, technical, and tax accounting skills with ability to assess unusual circumstances and identify root causes.
Advanced Excel and tax software proficiency.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to persuade and advise senior partners on complex matters.
Demonstrated ability to work independently under minimal supervision with wide latitude for judgment.
Proven ability to evaluate, interpret, and select the right course of action when faced with diverse problems.
Strong leadership skills with ability to mentor and guide others.
