Drive modernization of legacy mainframe applications (Assembler and COBOL) with a strong focus on developer experience (DX), automation, and DevOps adoption
Design and implement CI/CD pipelines for mainframe workloads, integrating legacy systems into modern DevOps and platform engineering practices
Enable AI‑assisted development and modernization, including the use of AI for code analysis, refactoring, documentation, test generation, and modernization acceleration
Partner with platform, DevOps, and SRE teams to embed observability, reliability, and security into modernized mainframe applications
Capture and codify legacy system knowledge to enable AI‑driven insights and ensure knowledge is accessible to the next generation of engineers
Serve as a technical leader and advocate for modern engineering practices on the mainframe, mentoring teams and helping shift culture toward automation‑first and continuous delivery models
Requirements
8+ years of mainframe transactional, batch, and core processing systems
Demonstrated success modernizing, refactoring, or translating legacy codebases into modern architectures or languages
5+ years of experience with modern software development practices, including version control, structured testing, and CI/CD pipelines
5+ years of experience with modern languages (e.g., Java, Python), API‑based architectures, cloud or hybrid environments, and enterprise integration patterns
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, and/or equivalent military experience
