Work with the incumbent finance team to resolve key issues and resolve aged balances and items.
Understand and document the current period end management account preparation process, with the intention to take this on post-exit.
Complete a successful knowledge transfer of the rail business financial position.
Identify areas of improvement for the financial statement close process.
Be responsible for the financial statement close process for the non-trading entity.
Prepare periodic management accounts.
Complete and submit Group Reporting and Board Reporting (including intercompany reconciliations, and commentary on significant activity in the period).
Post period end journals, liaising with the central shared service centre finance function and other Group accountants.
Complete balance sheet reconciliation for certain balance sheet accounts.
Prepare deliverables required from the Department for Transport (“DfT”) and other regulatory stakeholders.
Answer queries from the central shared service centre finance team on AP invoices, AR invoicing and debt collection, and cash payments.
Raise POs (where required) and manage the P2P process with the central shared service centre.
Assist with the VAT, corporation tax and other statutory returns, supporting others where required.
Maintain a weekly cash flow forecast.
Prepare deliverables to assist in the creation of the statutory accounts, working with auditors and external advisors as required.
Be the point of contact for the external audit, coordinating getting all information to them, answering queries, and escalating potential issues.
Requirements
Qualified accountant with experience in financial reporting and periodic management accounts preparation and reporting
Excellent communicator at all levels, both written and verbal
IT literate with a good level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Able to cope with peak workloads when required, managing multiple stakeholders and meet tight deadlines
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Strong knowledge of IFRS and statutory reporting requirements
Accounting qualification (ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
