Senior Coder – Validation Specialist

Role Overview

• assists the Coding Managers with oversight and evaluation of coding functions including efficiency, accuracy, continuing education needs and overall coding quality
• determines individual education needs of coders and collaborates with department manager and CDCI Coding Trainer and Educator to develop appropriate training materials
• oversees the administration of the education plan/training necessary, evaluating the effectiveness of the education plan or performance improvement plans

Requirements

• Associates Degree in Health Information Management, Nursing or a Medical Coding or healthcare related field (or equivalent combination of formal education and experience)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management, Nursing or related field preferred
• A minimum of at least one of the following: CCS (certified Coding Specialist) CCS-P (Certified Coding Specialist-Professional) CPC (certified Professional Coder) CPC-H (Certified Professional Coder-Hospital Outpatient; RHIT, RHIA) Minimum of two preferred
• Minimum of five years of coding experience in either inpatient or outpatient coding in an acute hospital setting
• Coding experience in teaching, tertiary facility preferred
• Experience as a coding validator preferred
• Supervisory experience highly desirable
