Performs general accounting and administrative functions to meet contractual requirements for operational and basic accounting for large projects.
Completes and reviews all financial transactions in a timely and accurate manner.
Provides project teams with ad hoc reports and analysis as the need arises.
Assembles information for internal and external financial reporting requirements.
Prepares bank deposits, monthly reconciliations, and cash receipt entries.
Identifies any irregularities or risk exposure and supports the development of a strategy to address them.
Communicates to project team and accounting management any compliance and project risks and assists with risk mitigation.
Assembles client billings packages in accordance with contract terms and conditions and ensures timely payment.
Reviews contracts and interprets trade partner documentation for accounting-related items and assists with project setup procedures.
Supervises, mentors and coaches entry level accounting staff.
Requirements
Postsecondary degree or diploma in a related discipline.
Active pursuit of accounting designation considered an asset.
3-5 years of accounting experience in construction or a related industry preferred.
Advanced understanding of full-cycle accounting and project forecasting and budgeting.
Intermediate knowledge of government legislation and generally accepted accounting principles.
Intermediate knowledge of project costing principles, recoveries, insurance, and contract/subcontract requirements as related to accounting.
Understands and complies with all labor agreements, government legislation, and PCL policies and procedures.
Intermediate understanding of owner contracts as they relate to payment terms, billing requirements, audit rights, and cost-of-work definition, insurance, and bonding.
Exhibits strong management skills, with the ability to delegate and coordinate activities and lead and motivate employees.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and experience with accounting software.
