Role Overview
Lead and develop a team of procurement professionals, building team capabilities to align with evolving global transportation requirements.
Manage the annual transportation budget, delivering targeted cost savings for transformation initiatives.
Negotiate commercial terms with carriers, formalizing a transportation strategy and establishing a core carrier network to enhance operational efficiency.
Design and implement a global RFP process for transportation, ensuring consistency and scalability across regions.
Oversee compliance with federal and global regulations for all freight movements, including import/export documentation and adherence to standards like C-TPAT, ISPM-15, and INCOTERMS.
Build and maintain strong relationships with domestic and international carriers and freight forwarders, ensuring alignment with CHEP’s safety, insurance, and service requirements.
Develop and monitor key performance metrics for transportation operations, carriers, and freight forwarders, including the creation of an International Carrier Scorecard.
Drive integration of carrier freight management technologies, enhancing reporting capabilities and fostering collaboration across internal, regional, and global teams.
Requirements
Detailed knowledge of the international transportation industry including ocean, rail, barge, drayage, FCL, LCL, and airfreight
Knowledge of standard transportation import and export procedures and US DOT requirements
Previous experience conducting global freight RFQs
Advanced experience with international transportation pricing methods and practices, customs entry processes and brokerage/clearance requirements preferred
Experience negotiating commercial terms for both master transportation agreements and ad hoc projects with freight forwarders, NVOCCs, customs brokers and steam ship lines
Fundamental understanding of CHEP Global Operations and business segments preferred
Thorough understanding of the CHEP Network pallet flows and seasonality preferred
Bachelor’s degree in a business or technical field preferred
5-7 years’ experience in Transportation, Logistics, or Supply Chain
2+ years’ experience with leading/managing people
