Serve as Avid’s primary technical authority on ASC 606 and maintain working fluency in legacy ASC 605 for transition-period comparatives and contract modifications.
Author and maintain technical accounting position papers, white papers, and contract review memos that document the company’s application of GAAP to complex arrangements.
Evaluate new and non-standard customer contracts, identifying performance obligations, variable consideration, SSP allocations, license vs. service distinctions, and principal/agent considerations.
Monitor FASB ASU updates, SEC staff guidance (e.g., SAB 104, Topic 13), and emerging practice to proactively assess impact on Avid’s revenue model.
Lead technical accounting discussions with external auditors, ensuring positions are defensible, documented, and consistently applied.
Own the monthly and quarterly revenue close process end-to-end—from journal entry review to final flux analysis—ensuring timely, accurate completion within close deadlines.
Oversee the integrity of transaction data and configurations within RevPro (the company’s revenue management system), ensuring proper allocation and recognition schedules across all contract types.
Prepare and review revenue-related disclosures for SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q), including disaggregation of revenue, contract balances (deferred revenue, unbilled AR), remaining performance obligations (RPO), and significant judgments.
Develop and maintain robust month-end analytical review procedures that quickly surface anomalies for investigation.
Act as a standing resource for Deal Desk and Sales during contract negotiation, providing real-time guidance on how proposed terms affect revenue recognition.
Educate Sales, Customer Success, and Legal teams on ASC 606 principles in clear, non-technical language—building a compliance culture without slowing deal velocity.
Maintain a repository of pre-approved contract language and term structures that simplify deal review for recurring transaction types.
Own the design, documentation, and operating effectiveness of key revenue-related internal controls under SOX, including controls over contract review, system configuration, and journal entry.
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Revenue Managers and Revenue Accountants, setting clear performance expectations and fostering a culture of precision, learning, and accountability.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA license required.
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including a meaningful mix of public accounting (Big 4 or regional firm) and industry roles at publicly traded companies.
Deep, hands-on expertise in ASC 606 including multi-element / multiple performance obligation arrangements, SSP estimation, variable consideration, licensing, and SaaS/subscription models.
Familiarity with ASC 605 for legacy contract analysis and comparative period reporting.
Demonstrated experience authoring technical accounting memos and presenting positions to external auditors.
Experience managing a revenue accounting close process at a publicly traded company, including SEC disclosure preparation.
SOX controls experience—design, documentation, and operating effectiveness testing.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to distill complex GAAP issues for non-accountant audiences including Sales, Legal, and C-suite.
Strong people leadership skills with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
