Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the Buyer is responsible for all aspects of the procurement process, including supplier evaluation, strategic sourcing, supplier performance monitoring, and analyzing data for cost savings.
The Buyer negotiates pricing, vendor selection and/or development, generates and manages purchases while ensuring production requirements are met.
Source and ensure on-time availability of materials required for custom, engineered to order complex products.
Assist with supplier quality initiatives including supplier evaluation, scorecard preparation and delivery, create and maintain supplier corrective action plans aimed to reduce delivery and quality issues within the supply base.
Facilitate resolution of supplier quality/fulfillment related issues.
Achieve quality, cost, inventory, and delivery targets.
Develop strong working relationships with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, sales, and engineering to understand and anticipate procurement needs to enhance supply chain business processes.
Prepare supplier contracts, supply agreements, with preferred suppliers to ensure that market trends, supplier performance, and future business needs are aligned.
Support global supply management and cost savings initiatives, including identification and execution of cost savings opportunities with current and potential domestic and international suppliers.
Actively work with the Planning and Operations teams to develop strategies to eliminate parts shortages and provide forecasts to suppliers and G&W Electric head office to ensure material availability.
Provide subject matter expertise on purchasing best practices.
Plan for and execute the procurement of raw material and services from domestic and international suppliers using the in-house ERP/MRP systems, expedite materials as required to ensure production needs are met.
Prepare and evaluate request for quote proposals, negotiation of contract pricing, terms and conditions.
Preparation/Reporting of metrics related to materials, cost savings, forecasting, and supplier quality.
Inventory analysis.
Evaluate and process indirect purchase order and capital requests.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
A minimum of 2 years of purchasing/procurement experience within a manufacturing environment
Bachelor's degree or college diploma in business or a related discipline
Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems required.
Advanced computer software skills, MS excel, access, project etc.
Ability to multi-task under pressure in a high paced environment.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written in English
Results-oriented, self-motivated individual with a sense of initiative
Ability to work independently and as a team player while solving problems and multitasking in a deadline-driven environment
Must have purchasing background working to support the manufacturing of custom products
Must have experience sourcing niche suppliers
Excellent knowledge of sourcing and procurement best practices
Experience working within a technical engineering environment
Resourceful, diplomatic, customer service oriented
Strong analytical, decision-making, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
Well-developed organization and prioritization skills; detailed oriented

Experience in creating and documenting processes and procedures; knowledge of ISO standards
Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship
Project Management training an asset
APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional and/or Certified in Production and Inventory Management, SCMA Certified Supply Chain Professional or other supply chain related designation an asset
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools and principles an asset.
