Own the design of the map experience, with a focus on readability, accessibility, symbol design, and visual clarity for users of all ages.
Design map symbols, icons, labels, POIs, route visuals, zoom-level behaviors, and visual hierarchy across the map.
Work closely with map rendering engineers to create MapLibre-compatible design solutions.
Improve the treatment of 3D buildings and map layers so the map is easier to understand.
Create map-style guidelines, QA-implemented map designs, and document reusable rules for the rendering squad.
Requirements
5+ years of proven experience in product design, UX/UI, cartographic design, map design, GIS visualization, or spatial information design.
A strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in map-based products, symbol design, visual hierarchy, readability, or complex data visualization.
Deep understanding of cartographic design, symbol/icon design, color theory, contrast, typography, map readability, zoom-level behaviors, labels, layers, and POIs.
Solid understanding of MapLibre/Mapbox-style map concepts.
Strong systems thinking, close attention to detail, analytical thinking, and deep user empathy.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to balance aesthetics and user experience against performance and technical constraints.
