Develop 3D pack architecture and produce detailed, manufacturer ready CAD models and technical drawings
Own tolerancing, GD&T, draft angles, wall thicknesses and other DFM parameters across the product range
Build functional and visual prototypes for research, validation, and internal sign-off
Maintain accurate, up to date design documentation, tech packs and specs throughout the product lifecycle
Support the briefing process, collaborating and guiding the design delivery of external engineering and simulation agencies
Assess manufacturing routes, tooling and materials with quality, cost and sustainability in mind, knowing where to push and where to compromise
Work directly with suppliers and manufacturers on feasibility, ensuring design intent survives the journey from concept to shelf
Lead tooling kick-off and manage the relationship with manufacturers through to production ready tech packs
Validate pre-production samples and sign off on gold samples against technical specification
Troubleshoot quality issues as they arise, working with suppliers to find practical, lasting solutions
Continuously look for opportunities to improve manufacturability, sustainability and cost within both new and existing products
Identify and evaluate materials and finishes against manufacturability, durability and sustainability criteria
Ensure material and finish choices are technically sound and consistent across the product range
Support structural concept development from brief, translating ideas into technically feasible product designs
Requirements
5+ years of experience in industrial or product design, with a strong emphasis on design for manufacture, ideally within personal care, consumer goods or packaging
Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software and demonstrable ability to produce and interrogate detailed technical drawings, tolerancing and GD&T
A thorough understanding of design for manufacture, you know what's achievable, what will cost too much, and how to push for quality within real constraints
Hands-on experience working directly with external manufacturers and suppliers, from feasibility conversations through to production sign-off and tooling
A portfolio demonstrating technical rigour: CAD output, tech packs, tolerancing and manufacturing outcomes, alongside a solid but secondary grounding in concept sketching and CMF
Working knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes relevant to packaging (injection moulding, tooling, finishing) and their cost and sustainability trade-offs
Comfortable with KeyShot, Solidworks or similar for technical visualisation
A self-starter mentality: as our first industrial design hire, you'll need to be confident operating independently and building process as you go
Ambition to grow, this is a role with a long runway, and we'd love to find someone who wants to help shape this function over time
