Kforce Inc is seeking a Data Engineer to join their team in Dallas, TX, focused on building a new application for mainframe application rationalization and modernization. The role involves data modeling, architecture, and stewardship to structure and leverage critical application data for analysis and decision-making.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement data models that support application analysis and modernization decision-making
- Build and maintain data persistence layers using PostgreSQL as the primary relational store
- Support downstream use of data in graph databases (Amazon Neptune / Neo4j) to model application dependencies and relationships
- Develop data ingestion and transformation logic using Python
- Integrate and manage analytical data in Snowflake for reporting and future analysis
- Partner closely with application engineers, architects, and stakeholders to ensure data is usable, scalable, and aligned to long-term modernization goals
- Help define data standards, schemas, and best practices for how information is stored, accessed, and evolved over time
- Operate within an AWS environment, leveraging cloud-native services where appropriate
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and traceability across systems
Requirements:
- Strong experience as a Data Engineer or in a data-focused engineering role
- Experience working with or supporting graph databases (Neptune and/or Neo4j), especially for relationship-driven data models
- Familiarity with data rationalization, application dependency mapping, or portfolio analysis
- Proven ability to define and evolve data models, not just consume existing ones
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL (schema design, relational modeling, performance considerations)
- Hands-on experience with Python for data processing and transformation
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake for analytics and structured data storage
- Hands-on experience with AWS (core services, data-related tooling, cloud architecture)
