EVONA is a fast-growing space technology startup redefining how satellites are designed, manufactured, and deployed. The Senior Thermal Engineer will take ownership of thermal design, analysis, and testing across hardware, collaborating closely with engineers to ensure flight hardware performs reliably in the space environment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead thermal design across conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases
- Perform trade studies balancing thermal performance, mass, power, cost, and risk
- Execute thermal analyses from first-order calculations to detailed models
- Support a wide range of hardware including electronics, batteries, propulsion components, RF systems, mechanisms, and PCBs
- Specify and evaluate thermal hardware such as heaters, heat pipes, interface materials, and surface coatings
- Define thermal integration and assembly processes to maintain design intent
- Support integration activities, including hands-on installation of thermal hardware
- Plan, execute, and analyse component-level and full spacecraft thermal vacuum testing
- Contribute to design reviews, documentation, and verification reports
- Support team growth through interviewing and onboarding
- Help improve shop, test, and integration facilities
Requirements:
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline
- 3+ years of professional experience in thermal analysis and thermally constrained hardware design
- Experience working with CAD models and engineering drawings
- Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on engineering mindset
- Ability to communicate clearly and work cross-functionally
- Experience with Thermal Desktop, Space Systems Thermal, or similar tools
- Background in electronics packaging or PCB thermal design
- Experience with high-vacuum or thermal vacuum testing
- Spacecraft, aerospace, or other high-reliability hardware experience
