NuScale Power is a company focused on innovative energy solutions, and they are seeking an R&D Engineer 3 to develop process steam distribution and control systems for industrial applications. The role involves leading the development of steam systems, performing thermodynamic analysis, and acting as a technical liaison between various teams.
Responsibilities:
- Leads the development of process steam systems for pressure/heat-augmentation, distribution and interfaces with industrial steam consumer facilities
- Defines requirements and specifications. Identifies and proposes optimal solutions to meet customer requirements through technical analysis and cost/benefit trade-off analysis
- Performs thermodynamic analysis of steam systems using modeling and simulation tools
- Works on complex tasks in multiple and diverse areas. Stays current on latest technologies and processes relevant for process steam and industrial power applications
- Defines the scope of work of interdisciplinary systems and acts as the technical liaison between the R&D team, procurement and external EPC and subcontractors
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- A minimum of a M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Systems Engineering, Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in steam and heat distribution system design or operation in the petrochemical and chemical industries
- Steam systems experience is required
- Ability to understand and communicate clearly using a phone, personal interaction, and computers
- Ability to learn new job functions and comprehend and understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a rapidly evolving environment
- The employee frequently is required; to sit and stand; walk; bend, use hands to operate office equipment; and reach with hands and arms
- Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation
- Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
- Emphasis in steam systems analysis; professional engineer (P.E.)
- Basic understanding of nuclear power generation
- Experience with Heat Exchanger Design, Steam Valves, Safety System
- System Integration, Mechanical Actuators, Valves, Control Systems, Safety Systems and Instrumentation
- Experience preparing test procedures, and defining operating limits
- Centrifugal compressors systems and anti-surge control mechanisms
- Experience with I&C systems for steam generation, steam valves, safety systems and integration of closed-loop SCADA controlled systems and industrial processes
- Experience supporting cross-functional teams including diverse engineering disciplines, operations, maintenance, planning, etc
- Participation with industry standards associations or working groups
- Demonstrated project management skills
- Demonstrated understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1
