Atlas Connections is seeking an experienced Data Center Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in mission critical/data center environments. This role focuses on the design, implementation, and maintenance of high-reliability mechanical infrastructure, ensuring resiliency and uptime for next-generation data centers.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and review mechanical designs for data center infrastructure, including chillers, heat exchangers, pumps, CRAH units, and CDUs
- Collaborate closely with electrical engineering, architecture, construction, and IT teams to align mechanical design with overall data center requirements
- Establish design parameters consistent with project scope and performance requirements
- Perform technical evaluations and mechanical engineering studies (e.g., cooling load, energy use calculations) and prepare associated reports
- Develop standards and playbooks to support consistent, efficient deployment of mechanical/plumbing systems
- Partner with engineering consultants and internal stakeholders through the full design lifecycle: Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR), Basis of Design (BoD), schematic design, design development, pricing, permitting, and construction
- Maintain accurate as-built drawings and mechanical documentation
- Support BoD development and design review meetings
- Develop and enforce mechanical specifications, details, drafting standards, and MEP coordination protocols
- Prepare documents and specifications for planning, engineering, and designing HVAC, plumbing, and fire suppression systems for mission critical facilities
- Review and respond to bid submissions, shop drawings, RFIs, and construction questions
- Review contractor submittals and shop drawings to ensure alignment with design intent and project requirements
- Support commissioning activities and verify system performance
- Participate in and/or witness testing activities as needed (e.g., factory/site acceptance testing for mission critical infrastructure systems)
Requirements:
- 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including 3+ years supporting commercial construction and/or data center projects
- Strong understanding of document control systems, change order processes, and construction project management tools
- Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale, complex builds with multiple stakeholders
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment with competing priorities
- Willingness to travel 25–50% to project sites across the U.S
- Bachelor's degree required in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field
- Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or Project Management preferred but not required
- Professional certifications such as PE, PMP, and/or LEED are highly valued
- AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM experience strongly preferred
