They are hiring a Principal Engineer to lead the delivery of a public-facing mobile application, focusing on secure data intake and accessibility while mentoring other engineers and setting technical direction.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs supporting user intake, data validation, persistence, and administrative workflows
- Own backend architecture decisions, including data models, service boundaries, and integration patterns
- Implement secure application logic for systems handling sensitive data (PII/PHI), including authentication, authorization, session management, and audit logging
- Design and maintain versioned, well-documented APIs with explicit data contracts and validation rules
- Support mobile and web clients by providing performant, reliable backend services and clean integration surfaces
- Contribute to frontend implementation as needed to enable end-to-end delivery, with awareness of accessibility and mobile constraints
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and automated tests to support frequent, low-risk deployments
- Instrument backend services for observability, reliability, and performance; diagnose and resolve production issues
- Operate effectively within public-sector compliance environments, including HIPAA, accessibility, records retention, and audit requirements
- Provide hands-on technical leadership through code reviews, architectural guidance, and direct contribution to production code
Requirements:
- 12+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including architecture ownership of production systems at scale and experience delivering mobile-first solutions and integrating GIS or map-based data into frontend applications
