The Senior Product Design Engineer will support the development of high-performance haircare products, contributing to the design and development process from concept through production and validation.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the design and development of haircare appliances from concept through validation, manufacturing, and post-launch support
- Own and deliver specific subsystems or performance areas (e.g., thermal delivery, airflow, structures, durability, noise, safety) within larger programs
- Apply engineering principles to evaluate trade-offs related to performance, cost, reliability, and manufacturability
- Collaborate with Electrical Engineering, Firmware, Industrial Design, Product Management, Operations, and external partners to deliver integrated solutions
- Build and test prototypes to explore concepts, reduce risk, and inform design decisions
- Plan and execute experiments, analyze results, and translate findings into practical design improvements
- Support products through validation testing, compliance activities, and manufacturing scale-up
- Identify areas for improvement in designs, processes, or ways of working
- Influence and mentor junior engineers, co-ops, and interns through technical guidance and example
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Typically 5+ years of progressive experience in consumer product design and development
- Solid understanding of mechanical and thermal fundamentals and how system interactions affect performance
- Experience designing components or subsystems involving motors, heaters, airflow paths, structures, or thermal control
- Hands-on prototyping experience (e.g., 3D printing, machining, lab builds)
- Experience planning and running tests and interpreting experimental data
- Proficiency in Creo or SolidWorks
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical partners
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on defined problem areas while collaborating effectively within a larger team
- Strong sense of ownership with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
- Experience with haircare appliances or similar handheld consumer products
- Familiarity with small-appliance components such as motors, heaters, sensors, PCBAs, and safety devices
- Exposure to compliance testing (UL/IEC), reliability testing, or mass production environments
- Experience working in fast-paced development settings with evolving requirements
