The Staff Engineer, Mechanical Design is responsible for developing new mechanical systems and maintaining existing designs, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality product development.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development and implementation of technical solutions for complex projects, involving multiple domains. Participate in project planning and scheduling
- Lead or participate in cost down exercises of existing designs
- Work with potential customers to understand their early designs and develop the engineering Scope Of Work to transition the product to full production
- Global SME with comprehensive knowledge and industry recognition. Provides technical leadership and direction to a global team of engineers
- Take responsibility for non-technical elements of an engineering project (people, financials etc.)
- Review and interpret customer specifications and may act as primary customer contact
- Analyze trade-offs in complex systems and recommend solutions. Develop deployment strategies and plans
- Lead the deployment of strategic technologies/programs and coordinate global deployment efforts
- May initiate relationships with new vendors/partners
- Prepare calculations on the proposed solution before completing technical drawings
- Design, modify and implement systems that meet customer and Celestica needs. For example, sketch and draw up designs using input from other engineers, requirements and input from a design review team
- Create designs in line with company procedure, regulations and client standards
- Submit drawings to management, engineering teams and customers for review
- Use customer feedback and data to upgrade, improve or repair the company's existing machines
- Provide support during the manufacturing process
- Finalize designs and send prints to the production department
Requirements:
- 6-10 years of relevant experience in Capital Equipment machine design
- Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Extensive knowledge of capital equipment mechanical design including welded frames, sheet metal parts, machined parts, electromechanical subassemblies, cable routing, piping, etc
- Knowledge of various materials, manufacturing techniques and secondary finishes
- Ability to provide system architecture input to designs
- Experience with various standards (UL, CE, ISO)
- Familiarity with engineering techniques such as DFMEA, V&V, etc
- The ability to create accurate 2D production prints, including the proper use of GD&T
- Experience with SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, and/or Siemens NX is a plus
- CFD and FEA analysis experience is a plus
- Fabrication experience in assembly, sheet metal production, welding, or CNC machining is a plus
- Semiconductor equipment experience is a plus
