WIT Recruiting is a company that provides staffing and recruitment services, and they are seeking a Senior North American Payroll Tax Specialist. This role involves supporting payroll tax operations across North America, focusing on compliance, accuracy, and resolving complex payroll tax issues.
Responsibilities:
- Own daily payroll tax funding activities, including validation, balancing, and reconciliation across North America
- Drive quarter end and year end processes, including audits, final validations, and reconciliation deliverables
- Perform detailed W-2, W-2c, and Form 941 reconciliation and corrections, including investigating variances and resolving root causes
- Research and resolve complex payroll tax issues across federal, state, local, and provincial jurisdictions
- Manage tax notices and correspondence, partnering with ADP and internal stakeholders to ensure timely resolution
- Support payroll tax compliance activities, including filings, corrections, and documentation preparation for audits
- Investigate liens, levies, offsets, and agency withholding orders, ensuring accurate handling and resolution
- Register withholding and unemployment accounts with state and local agencies as needed
- Respond to employee tax related questions (including W-4 inquiries) through email, messaging platforms, and ticketing workflows
- Collaborate closely with teammates to strengthen controls, improve accuracy, and ensure consistent compliance outcomes
- Participate in system testing and validation for new tax forms, new platforms, and payroll technology enhancements
- Contribute to projects that improve payroll tax processes, reporting, and operational efficiency
Requirements:
- 5 to 8 years of experience in a payroll tax focused role, supporting North American payroll operations
- Proven Canadian payroll tax experience, including compliance and reconciliation work
- Strong U.S. payroll tax expertise, including multi state compliance and payroll tax corrections
- Hands on experience with W-2, W-2c, 941, and quarter end and year end reconciliation processes
- Experience in an analytical environment, with a demonstrated ability to interpret data, spot patterns, and troubleshoot discrepancies
- Advanced Excel skills, beyond basic formulas, with confidence working in large data sets and reconciliation reports
- Comfort operating in a service driven environment with SLAs, case management, and stakeholder communication
- Ability to remain calm and organized during peak periods and deliver under tight deadlines
- Experience working with ADP SmartCompliance, including notice resolution and tax processing workflows
- Familiarity with SAP, GlobalView, and CICPlus Tax Withholding solutions
- Experience supporting payroll tax audits and preparing audit documentation packages
- Exposure to payroll tax process validation, controls testing, and continuous improvement initiatives
