Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer on a part time basis to assist with site surveys of 12-20 facilities for a DHS program remotely with limited travel. The role involves developing fire protection system designs, performing detailed calculations, conducting site assessments, and coordinating with various stakeholders throughout the design and construction lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
- Develop fire protection system designs including sprinklers, fire alarms, mass notification, suppression systems, and life safety strategies
- Perform detailed hydraulic calculations, code analyses, and fire modeling to ensure regulatory compliance and system reliability
- Conduct site assessments, risk evaluations, and inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) throughout the design and construction lifecycle
- Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, and system specifications, ensuring all designs meet NFPA, IBC, IFC, and local code requirements
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
- 5+ years of experience designing or engineering fire protection systems
- Strong working knowledge of NFPA standards, building codes, and fire protection best practices
- Proficiency with fire protection design tools such as AutoSPRINK, HydraCALC, Revit, or similar platforms
- Professional Engineering (PE) license in Fire Protection from any state
