Zekelman Industries is a leading independent steel pipe and tube manufacturer in North America. As a Business Development Manager, you will expand sales across multiple product lines within the data center construction ecosystem, leveraging relationships and technical expertise to position Zekelman solutions in project specifications and procurement pathways.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a strategic plan to increase the use and sale of Zekelman product lines in the data center market
- Build, nurture, and expand relationships with data center owners, developers, EPCs, engineering firms, and other key decision makers
- Serve as the primary point of contact for major accounts, ensuring alignment with engineering, procurement, and construction teams
- Identify upcoming data center construction projects early and position products in project specifications and procurement pathways
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand project challenges and deliver technical support, commercial support, and tailored solutions
- Track and influence material standards, specifications, and procurement pathways within the data center ecosystem
- Lead presentations, meetings, and value-engineering discussions with EPCs and design firms
- Manage pipeline forecasting, CRM updates, and sales reporting with clarity and consistency
- Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and customer meetings
- Support marketing efforts by providing market insights, customer feedback, and input that strengthens go-to-market execution
- Maintain regular, full-time, predictable attendance during scheduled hours as an essential function of this role
- Leads and promotes healthy and safe work practices as required by regulatory agencies and Company policy
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- 8–10+ years of business development or technical sales experience in the data center construction sector
- Existing, active relationships with major data center developers (hyperscalers and colocation), EPC firms, and supporting mechanical/electrical/structural contractors
- Strong understanding of data center procurement cycles, engineering standards, and commissioning processes
- Working knowledge of structural steel, conduit, and mechanical pipe applications
- Demonstrated experience selling directly to owners and developers
- Deeply networked within the data center construction community with the ability to influence outcomes
- Technical fluency in steel solutions (piling, structural, mechanical, and electrical) and the ability to translate value to customer needs
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with engineers, procurement teams, contractors, and executive stakeholders
- Strategic thinker with strong project-tracking and opportunity-qualification skills
- Knowledge of competitor offerings and differentiators within the market
- Ability to travel to meet with key customers (30%–50%)
- Engineering, construction management, or technical degree (preferred)
