The Data Product Manager will play a crucial role in developing and executing the enterprise data strategy, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and accessibility while collaborating with internal stakeholders to enhance product offerings.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain organized work habits by adhering to team processes, effectively managing time, and delivering work on schedule to meet commitments
- Ensure high responsiveness and follow-through in all communications, providing prompt updates to engineering and product stakeholders
- Define key performance indicators to measure success of features
- Break down complex projects into small, incremental user stories to enable frequent delivery of value
- Conduct a detailed assessment of legacy source systems to identify unstructured and/or poorly organized data. Document existing data formats, fields, and integration points, noting inconsistencies or gaps that hinder governance
- Work intimately with Data Engineering to prioritize critical elements from legacy systems that are essential for business operations and reporting. Focus initial efforts on high-impact data sets to maximize value and minimize disruption
- Develop and implement incremental data normalization routines—such as standardized field mapping, data cleansing scripts, and metadata tagging—starting with the most business-critical data
- Help architect the ideal data domain schema we should implement
- Prioritize the backlog based on business value and strategic goals. Ensure items are well defined and meet the definition of ready for development
- Drive the migration and integration of portions of legacy data into improved pipelines and modern platforms, validating quality and structure at each stage. Capture lessons learned and refine approaches before scaling up
- Document and communicate product-specific data requirements and challenges encountered with legacy systems, ensuring these are addressed in policy refinement and future technology upgrade discussions
- Build and align optimal work processes and cadences for the Data Engineering team, balancing predictable cadence and reporting with flexible responsiveness and cross-dependent agility, as well as a strong relationship that encourages, supports, and credits their work
- Collaborate with Risk/InfoSec/AppSec/CTO stakeholders to translate policy rules into concrete requirements. Ensure that every ingestion, transformation, and storage step is instrumented to meet data security policies, capture metadata, enforce quality tests, and generate audit trails that the governance team can consume
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- At least 5 years of SaaS product manager experience or other related project management experience
- Experience working with internal stakeholders
- Experience developing reports and metrics for stakeholders and product teams, using data analysis to drive decisions
- Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills to keep the product backlog well-ordered and ensure important items don't get overlooked
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently with a proactive, self-starter mindset in a fast-paced environment
- Empathetic, detail-oriented, data-driven, analytical, and inquisitive, with strong critical-thinking skills and the ability to visualize the big picture
- Excellent communication skills (clear and concise in writing and speaking) and strong presentation abilities
- Experience working with development teams using Agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum), including story mapping and writing clear user stories
- Able to grasp complex business challenges and nuanced product workflows, and translate them into simple, intuitive user experiences and designs
- Knowledge of NetSuite, Salesforce, AWS, other ERP or enterprise systems
- Knowledge of SQL, database management, best practices for queries
- Experience in the B2B space where you have built and managed complex internal tools to scale business processes
- Experience with building custom software applications to meet the needs of internal employees and teams
- Background in financial services, payments, mergers & acquisitions, banking, or accounting and tax systems
- Naturally curious and eager to learn how complex systems and business processes operate
- Experience with data analysis and reporting
