Mechanical Engineer

Microsoft is a leading technology company that powers cloud services through its Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) division. As a CO+I Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services, ensuring safety, compliance, and operational efficiency in data center operations.

Responsibilities:

• Promote a culture of safety, security, and compliance in all aspects of data center operations
• Understand the design, functionality, and operational requirements of your data center
• Collaborate with a team of industry professionals across Information Technology (IT) and Critical Environments (CE) to support 24x7x365 on-site data center operations and mechanical infrastructure
• Serve as the technical authority for on-site operations of large-scale mechanical systems and designs
• Establish and coordinate maintenance and safety procedures, ensuring the reliability ofhigh-capacity cooling systems and supporting backup electrical systems (e.g., diesel generators, rotary UPS)
• Steward critical infrastructure that supports the deployment of Microsoft’s online services
• Assistwith supplier selection and oversee mechanical supplier execution to ensure quality and compliance

Requirements:

• Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years related technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience
• 1+ years' experience in control engineering and generators, pumps, valves, HVAC theory, fire protection, water treatment and thermal management
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
• Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, or related field OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years related technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience
• 1+ years' project management
