TRS Staffing Solutions is seeking an Intermediate-Level Solar Electrical Engineer with experience in the utility-scale solar sector. The role focuses on the design, evaluation, and implementation of electrical systems for large solar power installations, requiring collaboration with various engineering teams and compliance with industry standards.
Responsibilities:
- Create electrical designs for large solar facilities, including single‑line diagrams, system layouts, schematics, and equipment specifications
- Perform engineering studies such as load flow modeling, short‑circuit analysis, grounding assessments, and arc‑flash evaluations
- Collaborate closely with project management, civil engineering, and mechanical engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical components
- Review and validate engineering drawings, calculations, and reports for compliance with relevant standards (NEC, IEEE, NESC) and utility requirements
- Support equipment procurement by developing specifications for inverters, transformers, switchgear, and medium‑voltage cabling
- Prepare technical documentation needed for permitting processes and utility interconnection submissions
- Assist with commissioning activities and troubleshoot issues during construction and system start‑up
- Conduct field visits to verify installation accuracy and adherence to design intent
- Stay current on advancements in solar technology, codes, and industry best practices
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- 3–5 years of experience in solar PV engineering, preferably on utility‑scale systems exceeding 100 MW
- Proficiency in tools such as PVsyst, ETAP, AutoCAD, or comparable engineering software
- Strong understanding of interconnection processes and utility requirements
- Familiarity with applicable standards (NEC 690/705, IEEE 1547, NFPA 70E)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in team environments
- Capable of managing tasks independently in a deadline‑driven setting
- PE license is highly preferred
- Background in high‑voltage substation design or integration for solar projects
- Knowledge of SCADA systems and PV plant instrumentation
- Experience with permitting processes or regulatory compliance for renewable projects
- Understanding of how battery energy storage systems (BESS) integrate with PV systems
