About this role
Western Governors University (WGU) is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to design, implement, and support scalable, secure cloud infrastructure. This role partners closely with engineering teams to enable reliable systems, modern DevOps practices, and effective use of Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement cloud infrastructure roadmaps
- Monitor system performance, capacity, availability, and reliability
- Automate cloud platforms and maintain monitoring and alerting systems
- Design and maintain server, storage, network, and security infrastructure
- Provide tools and infrastructure to support DevOps and development teams
- Mentor DevOps and Cloud Engineers
- Create and maintain infrastructure documentation, policies, and procedures
- Deliver AWS-based solutions for ongoing initiatives
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of AWS services including S3, EC2, RDS, SQS, IAM, and Route 53
- Kubernetes and Terraform expertise
- Scripting or programming experience in Bash, Python, Java, or Node.js
- Experience with CI/CD, GitFlow, and tools such as Jenkins or Travis CI
- Familiarity with serverless services (Lambda, DynamoDB, CloudWatch)
- Understanding of DevOps, Scrum, ITIL, and containerization or virtualization
- Experience with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, New Relic, Nagios, or similar)
- Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills
- Bachelor's degree in IT or a related field
- 7+ years of related experience, including 3+ years with AWS
