Serco is a leader in naval engineering projects supporting the U.S. Navy and commercial customers. They are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design of marine electrical systems, ensuring compliance with standards while collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality designs.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and specification of marine electrical systems from concept design, through detailed design and construction, including Power generation and distribution (LV/HV), Switchboards, transformers, UPS, and emergency power systems, Propulsion and thruster electrical systems, Automation, control, and monitoring systems
- Produce and review electrical design documentation, including Single-line diagrams, schematics, load analyses, and cable schedules, Equipment specifications and technical requisitions
- Provide project cost and schedule estimates
- Ensure compliance with relevant marine and offshore standards and class rules (e.g., IEC, IEEE, DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register)
- Support project execution through FAT, SAT, commissioning, and sea trials
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
- Collaborate with mechanical, naval architecture, and software teams
- Interface with clients, shipyards, vendors, and classification societies
- Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle
- Travel occasionally for shipchecks, and shipyard/customer Design Reviews
- Ensure primary consideration is given to Health, Safety, and Environmental issues in all activities undertaken within areas of responsibility
- Comply with all corporate policies and procedures, including quality assurance and security procedures, in the performance of duties
Requirements:
- Ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
- U.S Citizenship Required
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Marine Engineering, or related field
- Requires an active PE license
- 10+ years of experience in the design of marine electrical systems with a professional engineering firm, shipyard, or marine electrical contractor developing products related to the electrical drawings, electrical distribution system analyses, and supervisory control systems
- Broad knowledge of the application of electrical engineering design principles
- Strong working Knowledge of MS Office 2010 (Excel, Word, Outlook), MATLAB, Simulink, Simulink Coder (Real-Time Workshop), and PLC programming
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications, industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards such as 46 CFR; ABS; SOLAS; IEEE Std. 45; IMO; IEC; NEC; and other applicable rules and regulations
- Experience writing requirements and drafting Statement of Work (SOW) and Technical Instruction
- Ability to review and develop project work, quantities, costs, accuracy of specifications, completeness, and constructability
- Sound oral and written communications skills
- Ability to work efficiently with limited or no supervision
- The ability to travel 10% of the time
- Experience working with applicable regulatory, commercial, and military standards and classification society rules
- Familiarization with the NAVSEA Organization and its field activities
- Experience working with US Navy and Commercial ship and ship system design principles and practices
