Crossing Hurdles is seeking a Principal DFM Engineer specializing in Injection Molding and Plastics. The role involves evaluating CAD files and engineering drawings for manufacturability, identifying DFM violations, and collaborating with manufacturers to enhance production processes.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate 3D CAD (STEP) files and detailed engineering drawings for injection-molded plastic part manufacturability
- Identify and document DFM/DFA violations using precise design rules and quantitative criteria
- Assess draft angles, wall thicknesses, rib structures, undercuts, parting lines, and tooling feasibility
- Interpret and validate GD&T per ASME Y14.5 standards, supporting tolerance stack-up and functional fit analysis
- Deliver clear, actionable redlines and annotations to improve manufacturability scoring and product refinement
- Collaborate with contract manufacturers, incorporating real-world rejection trends and production feedback
- Propose process-aligned design improvements to enable efficient, high-yield manufacturing
Requirements:
- Strong years of hands-on experience in injection molding and plastics manufacturing engineering
- Deep expertise in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles specific to injection-molded plastics
- Strong experience reviewing and redlining 3D CAD models and engineering drawings
- Advanced proficiency in GD&T interpretation and practical molded part application
- Expertise in draft angle optimization, wall thickness control, and structural feature design
- Clear, structured communication skills with process-based justification
- Demonstrated track record resolving DFM issues in collaboration with product design teams
