The Electrical Discipline Lead has Business Center (BC) level responsibility of technical risk management. Primary responsibility is to be heavily engaged with Engineers to ensure that the projects for which the BC is responsible are technically sound and conform to QA/QC procedures. He/she has the authority and responsibility to manage risk and stop issuance of deliverables, if necessary. The Electrical Discipline Lead ensures the individuals in the group receive technical mentoring and professional development opportunities and also contributes to the firm-wide development and enhancement of production tools and processes.
Accountability
- Accountable to the Business Center Operations Leader (BCOL) and BC Electrical Principal for the overall discipline-specific technical performance of the group.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Provide guidance to the lead discipline Designer/Engineer for quality assurance of the project design
- Provide oversight to the Project Engineer during the verification of technical specifications, evaluation of bids, and selection of suppliers and equipment
- Participate in regular project reviews with all Project Managers and the BCOL to review the Project Financial Reports and discuss and establish appropriate courses of action
- Stamp engineering drawings for projects within the BC, to include multiple states
- Lead discussions regarding engineering design philosophy, lessons learned and general discipline issues
- Provide oversight and ensure proper documentation of the BC’s overall QA/QC compliance for all projects
- Participate in bi-monthly meetings with the BC Electrical Principal to assist in developing company engineering standards, procedures, and processes; resolve firm-wide discipline-specific issues
- Conduct a Post Project Review for a sampling of projects within the BC
- Develop and maintain discipline engineering standard documentation unique to their discipline and ensure the engineers are aware of the latest version
- Evaluate and qualify new technology for engineering processes
- Lead the technical training and professional development of the staff within the discipline group by assisting the BCOL and BC Electrical Principal with setting technical goals for each employee and conducting their performance evaluations
- Proactively work with engineers in support of all project deliverables
- Actively participate in the engineering community to build personal knowledge and professional growth and convey qualifications to the public
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Possess extensive knowledge of theory and practical engineering, design, architecture and construction
- Possess a thorough knowledge of engineering practices in the BC and a basic knowledge of engineering principles of other disciplines, including civil, structural and architectural
- Demonstrates current knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, procedures and accepted industry practices of design and construction within the field
- Exhibits excellent analytical, problem resolution, project management and training skills; very organized and attention given to detail and accuracy; flexible and collaborative
- Demonstrates strong leadership ability to deliver quality results
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills in working collaboratively and building effective relationships between teams to foster a positive team environment across the organization
- Understands technical project issues and can offer concepts for a workable solution
- Understands the roles and responsibilities of all members of the group within the discipline
- Sets the model for leadership and teamwork that earns the trust and respect of their peers
- Thoroughly understands all of Stantec’s scope of services and utilizes them
- Possess strong written, oral and presentation skills with the ability to discuss highly technical concepts to a variety of audiences, including executive level technical decision-makers; articulates ideas and solutions clearly when dealing with complex and uncertain situations
- Demonstrates initiative, self-discipline, a positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Holds himself/herself to the highest level of accountability to the company, team and client
Education and Experience
- Accredited engineering degree (required)
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) (required)
- Applicable experience in the Industry for 15+ years
- Professional Certification based on area of expertise (preferred)
