Hammond Lumber Company, voted 2025's Best Places to Work in Maine, is seeking a Full-Time Metal Shop Production Operator for our Palmyra, Maine location.
Job Responsibilities
- Production Operators receive orders, manufacture the orders efficiently and effectively, and work as part of the overall manufacturing team.
- This position will work on multiple manufacturing machines with the ability to assist wherever needed.
- Manufacturers are responsible for keeping the machines and facilities clean and maintained while mitigating potential safety hazards.
- This position will be responsible for communicating with the metals supervisor as an integral part of the manufacturing team.
- Follow all company policies and safety standards.
- Complete orders by fabricating according to specs using metal bending and cutting machines.
- Pick quality merchandise for customers and build transfer loads.
- Perform vehicle forklift safety inspections.
- Load and/or inspect loads to ensure the load is secure, and no unsafe vehicle or load leaves the yard.
- Check loads for picking accuracy and correct errors as needed prior to delivery or transfer.
- Contribute efforts to maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
- Report damage to equipment, inventory, or property to immediate supervisor the day it occurs.
- Perform tasks deemed necessary by supervisory staff.

Requirements
- High level of customer service.
- Metal machining experience.
- Previous forklift experience.
- Possess a valid state drivers license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to respond to hazards while driving.
- Ability to read, understand, and possess attention to detail.
- Must be self-motivated and able to communicate with team in a timely and respectful manner.
- Knowledge of building supplies and metal design programs preferred.
- Ability to perform basic math/ geometry for metal custom design.
- Ability to repeatedly lift objects up to 50 lbs with or without accommodations and load and unload trucks by hand.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and twist repeatedly throughout the workday.
