POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Data Management will lead the design, build, and execution of the company’s enterprise data management strategy, transforming fragmented, ad hoc reporting and siloed data into a single, governed, cloud based data platform that enables trusted analytics, self service reporting, APIs, and AI ready datasets.
This role is not theoretical. We are seeking a hands on leader who has successfully built and operationalized enterprise data platforms before, ideally in logistics, supply chain, or similarly complex operational environments,
The Director will own architecture, governance, delivery, and adoption, while actively contributing to the design, build, and guidance of a modern, scalable data platform using widely adopted cloud and data technologies.
Key Outcomes This Role Owns
Within 12–24 months, this leader will be accountable for:
- Establishing a single source of truth for enterprise analytical and historical data
- Eliminating high‑risk, spreadsheet‑based reporting solutions
- Delivering consistent, trusted metrics across business units
- Enabling self‑service analytics, APIs, and a unified data access experience
- Creating a scalable foundation for AI, advanced analytics, and automation use cases
- Standing up practical, sustainable data governance that enables speed rather than bureaucracy
Core Responsibilities
Strategy & Architecture (Hands‑On)
- Translate the enterprise data vision into a practical, phased architecture roadmap
- Design and evolve a cloud‑based, analytics‑ready data platform (e.g., lakehouse or modern data warehouse patterns)
- Define ingestion, transformation, storage, semantic, and access layers
- Ensure architecture supports both real‑time and historical analytical needs
- Make pragmatic build‑vs‑buy decisions while maintaining architectural integrity
Delivery & Execution
- Lead the initial platform buildout personally, then scale the team over time
- Oversee ingestion pipelines from core operational systems (WMS, TMS, Finance, HR, etc.)
- Drive standardization of definitions, metrics, and data contracts
- Partner with BI, application, and integration teams to ensure end‑to‑end delivery
- Deliver tangible business value early—avoiding long, “big bang” programs
Governance & Trust
- Establish lightweight, enforceable data governance
- Define ownership, stewardship, and accountability for data domains
- Implement data quality, lineage, and metadata practices that build confidence
- Ensure role‑based access, security, and compliance are built in by design, not bolted on
Enablement & Adoption
- Shift the organization from IT‑built reports to consumer‑enabled analytics
- Remove business logic from the reporting layer and centralize it in governed data models
- Enable consistent language across the enterprise (customer, order, load, facility, etc.)
- Partner with operations, finance, and executive leadership to drive adoption and outcomes
Team & Leadership
- Build and lead a small, high‑caliber data management team
- Set standards, mentor talent, and establish a strong delivery culture
- Act as the company’s senior authority on data management and analytics architecture
- Influence executives through clarity, outcomes, and credibility—not presentations
Required Experience & Background
Must Have
- 10+ years in data management, analytics, or data platform leadership
- Direct, hands‑on experience building and operating enterprise data platforms
- Proven success consolidating fragmented data environments into a unified platform
- Strong experience with modern cloud‑based data ecosystems, including:
- Cloud data warehouses or lakehouse platforms
- Object storage technologies
- Data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and modeling tools
- Experience designing governed, scalable enterprise data architectures
- Ability to move comfortably between architecture, hands‑on delivery, and executive discussion
Strongly Preferred
- Experience in logistics, supply chain, transportation, warehousing, or complex operational data domains
- Experience enabling enterprise analytics platforms (e.g., Qlik, Power BI, Tableau, or similar)
- Experience supporting API‑driven or programmatic data access
- Experience laying foundations for AI, machine learning, or advanced analytics
- Experience operating in environments with decentralized teams and legacy systems
