What to expect:
The Senior Manager, Fund and Partner Development (Development) leads and directs all fund development activities for the Foundation and works to expand the awareness, reach and support of the Foundation and its impact with external partners; including corporations, foundations, associations, governments, and philanthropic individuals both external to the Foundation as well as employees within the CWB Group and its affiliates, and all members of the educational community. The Director’s role is key to ensure and drive alignment of the Foundation development strategy (relationships and funding) across all CWB Foundation staff (Development, Marketing and Communications and Programming) and in collaboration with CWB Group business development activities. This individual is a strategic and experienced fundraiser, proposal, grants and impact report writer and developer, and relationship builder, who will support the Executive Director, by leading and managing the Development team in coordination and support of the Foundation’s strategic plan and operational goals and objectives.
This is a critical time for reinforcing and further diversifying revenue generation into new geographies, evolving industry sectors and demographic areas, and across corporate, institutional, government, Associations, individuals and Foundations, in Canada and globally. This key role is home office based, with travel across Canada.
Key responsibilities:
- Fundraising and partner development strategy and planning, across key industry educational, technology and government sectors; incorporating research, outreach and relationship development in support of fundraising, sponsorship and grant sourcing strategies.
- Prospect research strategy, goal setting and identification- Corporate, Foundation, Associations and Government
- Fundraising and Donor/Grantor Development: Cultivation, Solicitation, Confirmation, Stewardship and Renewals
- Campaigns and Special Projects: e.g. Holiday Campaign for Annual Fund, Mass market (Canada Helps, Benevity), and Donor Advised Fund Development
- Fundraising and Partner Impact Reporting, Research and Communication
- Fund and Partner Development Communications, Reporting and Stewardship in collaboration with Marketing and Communications and aligned with the strategic direction of the Foundation and thought leadership strategy
- The Senior Manager, Development is a key relationship manager and maintains an active portfolio of between 40-60 major prospects and donors

Fundraising and Donor Development
- Develop and lead the execution of the annual business plan for fund and partner development for the Foundation to meet the Foundation’s annual revenue goals. This includes but is not limited to developing and implementing strategies related to all donor categories and market sectors.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift prospects and donors to meet annual fundraising goals.
- Identify and propose potential fundraising programs/initiatives in alignment with the strategic priorities of the Foundation and Community Investment and sponsorship priorities of potential funders and granting agencies.
- Manage and lead a team of fundraising professionals and project leads; providing guidance, training and support as needed.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of Foundation programs to create opportunities for donor engagement.
- Engage with and professionally support community and volunteers in cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities.
- Collaborate with staff and communications team members to develop and execute effective donor communications and compelling and strategic fundraising materials including but not limited to, information briefs, cases for support, briefing notes, proposals, grants, sponsorship materials and stewardship reports.
- Liaise with marketing/communications/digital and donor relations support personnel to develop fundraising, sponsorship, events and recognition materials.
- Monitor and analyze fundraising data to evaluate performance and adjust strategies as needed.
- Act as an ambassador throughout the community and constituents, positively representing the Foundation and CWB Group.
Partnership Development, Management, and Communications
- Identify, engage and build formal and informal relationships with like-minded organizations with complementary interests and programs that align with the purpose and strategic vision of the Foundation.
- Identify opportunities to collaborate on initiatives that meet mutually beneficial objectives, initiate joint or support based funding proposals to organizations including Associations, government and NGOs and corporations.
- Establish and ensure the accurate reporting of methods and metrics to enable qualification and quantification of impact for funded and collaborative initiatives.
- Foster an environment wherein collaboration and partnership activity is activated and stewarded to ensure that objectives are met.
Donor Communications and Stewardship
- Engage with and professionally support business partners and volunteers in qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities.
- Develop and implement relationship management strategies and timelines.
- Work closely with donor relations staff to determine the best strategies for effective stewardship of donors.
- Lead and collaborate in the development and publication of all necessary materials, proposals (philanthropic and sponsorship), cases for support, letters, reports and acknowledgments for cultivation and stewardship of partners.
- Work with colleagues to plan and execute proposals and targeted communication plans for new, existing and potential partners.
- Acknowledge that current donors are the Foundations top prospects and lead accordingly to recognize them for their investments with professional stewardship activities, communications and impact reporting.
Management, Supervision and Administration
- Collaborate with marketing communications, research, and program staff to identify new opportunities – prospect identification, gaps, and produce professional, high-quality proposals and reporting communications, impact reporting and reinforcing the brand, purpose and strategic vision of the Foundation.
- Coach and lead through example to support the efforts of team members, Foundation and CWB Group leadership and staff to build ambassadors, trusted partners and community within and external to the CWB Group of companies, and to promote mutually supporting relationships with the CWB Group that enhance the financial and operating results of the Foundation and the overall organization.
Other duties as assigned:
This position will report to the Foundation Executive Director. CWB is adopting a remote-first working model, where employees will work from their home office, servicing the client within their specified areas either remotely or in person. We are embracing radical flexibility, where employees are encouraged to work a schedule that works best for them, their team, and their clients.
What you bring to the table:
- University degree.
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration or a related field.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development, CFRE designation achieved or in process.
- 7 years’ experience in a nationally focused, not for profit charitable organization with an education sector area of focus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
- Strong leadership and management skills, experience managing a team of fundraising professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
- Experience with fundraising software, donor databases and online fundraising platforms.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Extremely effective interpersonal skills with a professional presence and manner, capable of exercising independent judgement, initiative and flexibility.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically, work proactively, and manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
- Excellent organization, planning and time management skills with exacting attention to detail.
- Proficient in MS Office (Outlook/Word/Excel/PowerPoint), demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in Raisers Edge or equivalent donor management system.
- Positive attitude, ability to take responsibility and be accountable, ability to deal with change in the workplace and be innovative, respect for others.
- A criminal record check is required.
- Some requirements to work outside of regular office hours.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- This is a remote, work-from-home position.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle.
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout Canada and internationally as required.
- Must have valid travel documentation to travel within Canada and internationally.
