Due to our site growth and as our employee numbers reach and pass 8,000, we are looking for a Head of Payroll to lead the payroll strategy and support cross functional processes and initiatives. to join our Finance team.
This role will support the Financial Controller, who previously carried out these responsibilities, and work closely with the CFO, the People Team’s management, the Childcare Directors, and other senior members of Kids Planet as appropriate.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
• Provide leadership for the payroll department, and drive strategy and prioritisation across other internal teams
• Line manage the Payroll Manager
• Work with the People Team and Childcare Director teams to identify areas of challenge or opportunity (within Dayforce, or within day to day processes), and deliver them to improve business processes
• Review due diligence documentation for new acquisition, being the first point of contact on all areas of payroll, and ensuring a smooth integration and TUPE alongside the People department
• Ensure National Minimum Wage legislation is enacted and reviewed, leading any National Minimum Wage audits on behalf of Kids Planet and proactively highlighting any areas of risk
• Identify and recommend any other areas of continual improvement
• Develop insightful reporting to internal stakeholders, highlighting areas of exception and working with business teams to drive improvements
• Support the Payroll Manager in resolving complex queries
• Lead on all aspects of payroll query in the annual Audit
• Own all areas of Employment Related Tax risk, suggesting suitable mitigations and, where appropriate, liaising with HMRC
• Provide month end reporting on payroll, including reconciliation of the month end payroll accounts and provision of insight and reports to enable CFO Board reporting.

What we are looking for:
• At least 3 years experience in a similar managerial role
• Strong knowledge of tax laws
• Good systems knowledge and experience of large payroll databases
• Good level of competence in Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Confident communication and leadership skills
• Ability to manipulate and understand previously unseen data sets.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and numerical ability
• Self-motivated, calm and professional, and able to work efficiently in a busy office environment
• Ability to reconcile complex accounts and have excellent attention to detail
• Excellent Numerical ability and problem-solving skills
• Experience of Dayforce or a similar platform
