Tech Project Manager - IBM Z Software Migration

Kforce Inc is seeking a Technical Project Manager to lead complex software migration and modernization projects on the IBM Z platform. This role involves partnering with technical delivery teams and client leadership to ensure timely and aligned project delivery for enterprise clients transforming their legacy systems.

Responsibilities:

• Lead project management for mainframe software migration initiatives from planning through delivery
• Consult with stakeholders to define project scope, timelines, and success criteria
• Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, and risk management strategies
• Manage cross-functional teams and ensure alignment across engineering, operations, and leadership groups
• Report project progress, risks, and mitigation strategies to internal and client stakeholders
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and help implement best practices for delivery efficiency
• Ensure quality and compliance across all phases of migration projects
• Work with IBM Z platform teams to coordinate testing, deployment, and cutover activities
• Travel occasionally to client sites across North America for key milestones and workshops

Requirements:

• PMP or PRINCE2 certification (or equivalent experience)
• 5+ years of experience managing large, complex technical or software implementation projects
• Proven ability to manage scope, schedule, budget, and risk across multiple stakeholders
• Strong knowledge of IT operations, SDLC, and project governance frameworks
• Exceptional communication, documentation, and leadership skills
• Ability to balance competing priorities and drive results in a dynamic environment
• Experience with IBM Z Mainframe environments or IBM Z software migrations
• Familiarity with IBM software products (e.g., RACF, CICS, IDz, or Wazi)
• Understanding of mainframe development languages such as COBOL or PL/I
• Prior experience in modernization or DevOps transformation projects is a plus
