Job Purpose
The Intern Electrical Engineer will work on design, development, and implementation of port crane projects related to container handling equipment and other products / services provided by WCS. This position requires a strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, interest in designs, manufacturing port cranes and port infrastructure. The Intern Engineer will be assisting Principle Engineers and Senior Engineers ensuring that port crane and infrastructure related projects, manufactured products meet electrical specifications, safety standards, and customer requirements.
Key Accountabilities
- Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction within the department
- Assist in preparation cost estimates for the projects in cooperation with Engineers and Project Managers
- Assist in conducting design reviews of port equipment with respect to electrical and automation design and safety standards.
- Assist in development of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts for port cranes and manufactured products projects.
- Assist in specifying electrical components, including motors, drives, sensors, and control systems.
- Coordinate with mechanical engineers and other team members to ensure the integration of electrical systems into port crane designs.
- Assist in technical support and troubleshooting assistance for electrical issues related to port cranes.
- Review and prepare under supervision port electrical infrastructure, interface between port equipment.
- Prepare electrical layouts, drawings, and schematics for reefer racks design, manufactured products, and upgrade projects.
- Perform the following but not limited to
- Assist the Engineers in preparing the technical specifications and project estimations, liaise with subcontractors to prepare the offer.
- Assist in Design of substation, switchgear, cable sizing and scheduling
- Reading technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
- Assist in the Preparation of required method statements and risk assessments.
- Liaise with procurement to follow up on the project materials for prompt deliveries.
- Preparation of technical inspection reports, and documentation of the projects during final handover with punch list works resource and cost allocation.
- Ensure that the highest level of safety is applied in all WCS activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Implement and monitor WCS’ HSE compliance policy.
- Act as an ambassador for DP World at all times when working; promoting and demonstrating positive behaviours in harmony with DP World’s Principles, values and culture; ensuring the highest level of safety is applied in all activities; understanding and following DP World’s Code of Conduct and Ethics policies.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronics/IT Engineering or equivalent
Experience
- From none to 3 years of experience in relevant field
- Interest in team working
- Interest in electrical design review for industrial applications
- Basic experience in CAD applications for electrical design
Skills
- Technical knowledge of Electrical components for industrial applications
- Ability to conduct sizing calculations for electrical systems, motors, and transformers based on expected operational features.
- Knowledge on crane control systems like PLC, Drives (Optional)
- Thorough knowledge on the Electrical standards
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, including circuits, power systems, control systems, and motor drives.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in electrical design software.
- Proficiency in coding, preferable Phyton.
